An Android File Transfer alternative for Mac

Android File Transfer, Google’s app for moving files from Android to a Mac, is no longer available. If what you need is to move photos and videos, sendtomac does it from the browser, with no cable and nothing to install.

Open sendtomac

Step by step

  1. On your Mac, open sendtomac.com. A QR code appears.
  2. On your phone, open the camera and point it at the code. The same site opens, already connected to your Mac.
  3. Tap “Choose photos and videos” and pick the ones you want.
  4. Tap “Send”. Your Mac downloads a ZIP with all of them, ready to open.

Your phone and Mac need to be on the same Wi-Fi.

What your options are now

Since Android File Transfer went away, these are the most common ways to move things from Android to a Mac.

If you just want to move photos and videos now and then, sendtomac is the quickest because there’s nothing to install. If you need to browse every folder on the phone, a cable app suits you better.

Questions

Why doesn’t Android File Transfer work anymore?

Google stopped offering it for Mac. Its current way of sending files, Quick Share, only has a Windows version.

Does sendtomac move any kind of file?

For now it moves photos and videos, which is what people most often need to get from a phone to a computer.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. They go straight from your phone to your computer over your own network. We never store or see them.

How much does it cost?

Your first 20 files are free on each computer. After that it’s €9.95 as a one-time payment, no subscription.
