How to transfer videos from your phone to a computer without losing quality

Videos are the hardest thing to move because they’re big. With sendtomac they go straight from your phone to your computer over your Wi-Fi, with no size limit and no compression.

Open sendtomac

Step by step

  1. On your computer, open sendtomac.com. A QR code appears.
  2. On your phone, open the camera and point it at the code. The same site opens, already connected to your computer.
  3. Tap “Choose photos and videos” and pick the ones you want.
  4. Tap “Send”. Your computer downloads a ZIP with all of them, ready to open.

Your phone and computer need to be on the same Wi-Fi. Works with Android and iPhone, Mac and PC.

Why videos cause so much trouble

A minute of good-quality video can take hundreds of megabytes, and almost every usual way of sending it either has a limit or compresses it.

sendtomac sends the original file over your own network, so size doesn’t matter and quality stays the same.

Tips for long videos

Keep your phone screen on until it finishes; sendtomac reminds you. If the video is in iCloud, the iPhone downloads it first and it may take a moment to start.

Questions

Is there a size limit?

No fixed limit. Bigger videos just take longer, depending on your Wi-Fi speed.

Is the video compressed?

No. It arrives exactly as your phone hands it over.

Are my photos uploaded to a server?

No. They go straight from your phone to your computer over your own network. We never store or see them.

What if it won’t connect?

Some networks, like guest Wi-Fi or setups with extenders, stop devices from seeing each other. Turn on your phone’s hotspot and connect your computer to it.

How much does it cost?

Your first 20 files are free on each computer. After that it’s €9.95 as a one-time payment, no subscription.
